Café de spécialité Araku : café équitable et responsable

Fair and responsible coffee

Araku Coffee helped connect infrastructure, logistics and marketing to enable farmers to sell their specialty coffee without a middleman. By regaining full control of their value chain, they were able to escape poverty and become fair trade coffee entrepreneurs.

Araku fair trade coffee : the bosses are the farmers

Yes of course ! All farmers in the Araku region own their fair trade coffee plots. We provide them with tools and knowledge in return for assurance of production quality. The Araku cooperative then purchases the coffee cherries from each farmer before processing them.

ARAKU Coffee's cooperative, the Small and Tribal Farmers' Mutually Aided Cooperative Society, brings together all of our responsible coffee farmers. By selling their coffee cherries directly to the cooperative, farmers benefit from an economic model that guarantees them a stable and fair income, without being influenced by fluctuations in the world price of coffee. The cooperative has established a quality scale favoring the production of high quality coffee cherries. In fact, the more they correspond to the criteria of specialty coffee, the higher their purchase price will be by the cooperative.

Our agricultural model is based on agroforestry. That is to say the complementarity of crops to restore the ecosystem and improve production yields. This way of doing things also guarantees income diversification for fair trade coffee farmers. Thus, throughout the year there are harvest periods for mango, pepper, turmeric, rice, millet and many others.
