Araku: a land conducive to the cultivation of high-end and ecological coffee
Producing exceptional coffee and respecting the environment are just two sides of the same philosophy at Araku. Indeed, producers are keen to protect the land in their region, renowned for its fertility and the biodiversity of this nature reserve. Protected since 1995, the highlands of the Eastern Ghats above the Bay of Bengal offer ideal conditions for growing premium coffee. Premium Araku coffee is grown in the shade of trees in more than 520 villages. In these villages, entire families cultivate traditions and perpetuate regenerative agricultural practices, which promote manual labor at the expense of machines and avoid any use of chemicals.
Biodynamics: an ally of high-end ecological coffee
To ensure that Araku coffee is worthy of the rating given to it and the organic label displayed on the packaging, we apply environmentally friendly agricultural techniques. It’s difficult to talk about high-end coffee without talking about biodynamics . Based on the principle that nature is currently degraded by man, this technique tends to better understand nature and not compromise the natural balance of the cultivated space. To do this, farmers seek at all costs to preserve the health of the soil, by feeding plants without chemical aid, and by embracing the forms of the life cycle in their agricultural practices. Our farmers use compost produced locally with cow dung and organic waste. On their scale, this allows producers to avoid handling polluting and dangerous phytosanitary products, both for them and for the soil. Note that today, Araku is the largest coffee plantation certified organic and in biodynamic agriculture... in the world.
High-end coffee: the promise of coffee with strong aromas
Between the high altitude climate and the nutrient-rich soils, the high-end coffee grown in the Araku region benefits from ideal conditions to mature slowly. Premium coffee beans are given time to grow and evolve with their environment, giving the beans their body, smoothness, intensity and rich flavor profile. Today, India and the Araku region offer lovers of high-end coffee the opportunity to discover products with unique aromas, combining balance and roundness, enhanced with spicy notes. Less known than Brazilian or Ethiopian coffees,
premium Indian coffee is the fruit of a unique terroir, the result of fair and ecological practices .
