How to prepare your coffee in a V60?

Start by placing the carafe and V60 on the scale.
Insert the filter paper and rinse it. This step removes the flavor from the filter paper. Remember to drain the water used for rinsing. Then add the ground coffee and tare the scale.

The first stage is "bloom." This essential step releases certain gases retained by the beans during roasting and ensures even extraction.

Start the scale's timer and pour in 3 times the weight of the ground coffee in water. For example, if you used 20g of ground coffee, pour in 60g of water. Check that all the coffee is moistened, and gently shake the coffee maker if it isn't.

Wait 45 seconds, then pour water until you reach 200g of water in total. If my "bloom" was 60g of water, then I pour 140g of water.

Wait another 45 seconds then pour in the remaining 100g of water to reach a total of 300g of water.

In total, the extraction should last between 3 minutes and 3 minutes 30 minutes.

FAQs

When brewing coffee with the Kinto Sepia Carafe, it's recommended to choose coffees with a light to medium roast. These roast levels help bring out the delicate aromas of the coffee when brewed using the Kinto Sepia coffee maker. Lightly roasted coffees often have floral, fruity, and tangy notes, so we highly recommend trying Araku Haute Altitude Organic Specialty Coffee. Its freshness and natural vegetal character are perfectly enhanced by this brewing method.

There are many gentle brewing methods. Examples include the Hario V60, Origami, and Chemex dripper. The main difference between V60 and Chemex brewing lies in the design of the equipment, the shape of the paper filter used, and the flavor characteristics of the resulting coffee. The Hario V60 or Origami dripper emphasizes precise extraction and highlights the coffee's subtle aromas and nuances, while the Chemex method produces a milder, cleaner brew with a heavier texture and rounder tasting notes.

To maintain your Kinto Sepia carafe, it is recommended to rinse it with hot water after each use. For a more thorough cleaning, you can occasionally use a little mild soap, but avoid harsh detergents to avoid damaging the Kinto coffee maker. For stubborn stains, treat them with a solution of hot water and baking soda or white vinegar.
